I have been an Aesthetician for 37 years. State Board sent
consumer affairs out to investigate who was performing services
such as Waxing, applying make-up, facials and individual eye
lashes (now called Lash extension), all which were very popular
in the 70’s. The license did not exist before 1973, you had to
have a cosmetology license to do any of the above services
which I performed.
When a female investigator from consumer affairs made
an appointment to have her lower legs waxed, she came
in with one leg wrapped, she said she burned the one leg
could I wax just one for half price. Of course I
accommodated her. I called to check up on her (as I
always do with my clients),and to tell her she left her sun
glasses, her phone number did not exist. A few weeks
later the Salon I was renting space from received a letter
that they will be fined, or closed down since they had an
unlicensed person doing services in their Salon. A court
date was scheduled. Since I was closed down, as
everyone on Ventura Blvd was closed down as well, our
clients were without their beauty treatments.
My Client’s husband Was Assemblyman Thom Baines,
who wrote legislation for all the girls who were out of work
called, 'The Cosmetician act'; this
allowed me to come back to work after a year of going to
my clients home to do the services they required. At this
time I was grand fathered in after passing the state board
test.
I then went on to taking as many classes that were available to
further my knowledge and to keep up with new methods and
products for the Cosmetic industry.
That's my story. Ellie

your weight divided by 2 that is how many ounces you should
needs to breathe, and using a facial wash helps your skin feel
cleanser which optimizes your skin’s moisture levels.
~Using a toner after cleansing your skin is highly important as
this helps wash off any residue and provides a general cleaning
action. If your skin is generally oilier, using an astringent which
could help remove excess oil, leaving your skin fresher, cleaner
and cooler.
~Use a fresh hot wash cloth and place it over your face and
just inhale. This will relax you at the end of the day. Now
massage your cleanser into your skin and remove with the hot
cloth. The terry is a mild abrasive to help remove the days
accumulation of dirt
~Using a facial scrub once a week helps remove dead skin cells,
helping your skin remain younger looking. A facial mask used
once a week will boost your moisture levels and keep a healthy
glow. You are guaranteed to feel a difference in your skin when
you have applied the correct facial mask to you face.
~Always use a fresh wash cloth, never rinse it and let it on the
sink. Toss it in the hamper, because bacteria will form between
each use.
~Sleep on your back, It is better for your lungs and lines will
not etch in your cheeks or near the nasolabial folds along your
nose.
8. Night cream may be use day and night as long as it doesn’t
feel heavy on the skin. Moisturizers help prevent wrinkles,
keeping your skin smooth and soft. It doesn’t matter what skin
type you may have, using a moisturizer helps prevent some of
the effects of aging.
~Long hot showers dry the skin out. Instead take short,
lukewarm showers, patting ourselves nearly dry, than apply a
rich moisturizer to damp skin. And again before bedtime.
~Stretch marks are caused by tiny tears in the elastic fibers of
the skin and the breakdown of collagen; they can be minimized
by a combination of micro dermabrasion and laser treatments.
Both stimulate the skin to build collagen, together.
~When applying eye cream on the orbital bone stay away from
your bottom lashes the cream will get in your bottom lashes
and cause tearing.
